Smy Carlos V Alghero

Alghero is a truly unique place to visit, and my stay at Carlos V hotel made the experience even more enjoyable. The hotel is impeccably clean, peaceful, and offers a picturesque view of the harbor. The room I stayed in was spacious and featured a lovely balcony. One of the highlights for me was the generously-sized pool, which was never overcrowded, allowing me to enjoy a refreshing swim. The SPA at the hotel offers an extensive range of treatments, although it is advisable to book in advance since it is a well-known facility. The staff there is highly knowledgeable and helped me find the perfect treatment for my needs. With two restaurants on-site, the hotel offers delicious food, although the menu does not have a wide variety of choices. The service throughout my stay was exceptional, with one small suggestion: the waiters at the bar should avoid turning their backs to the patrons, especially when customers are waiting to order and trying to get their attention. Nevertheless, my overall experience was fantastic, and I highly recommend Carlos V hotel to everyone. In fact, it has become my favorite hotel in Alghero thus far.

Reluctantly I have given 4 stars. I will explain why but first I want to praise the following... Some of the friendliest and most attentive staff I have met. Andrea was an absolute gentleman throughout at the restaurant. Very good head waiter. Luca at reception - very witty & helpful. Antonio at reception - extremely helpful in guiding me through places to visit in Sardinia on the first day. Dario - brilliant at the bar. Also extremely funny and charismatic. Lorenzo at reception - very smiley and helpful. Good communicator. There were 1/2 staff members that seemed novice and made mistakes but generally very good. The location is great. Especially for those who don't want to be in the crazy loud part of town but also enjoy a walk every day. It looks great too. One issue faced - cockroach but were kindly moved to another room without hassle. I must stress no other major insects were seen. It was definitely a one off. Why not 5 star... In comparison to other 5* hotels I have visited around the world, this seemed a bit off that standard. The decor in some placed needed touching up. The bed - this is subjective but for me not the comfiest. Big but huge parting in the middle. Pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Had trouble sleeping. Expected more for a 5* hotel. Air conditioning system was horrendous. First room was too cold and wouldn't turn off properly. After switching to 2nd room there was hardly any air conditioning at all! Very hot this time. I spoke to reception and was told it was now turned on but no difference. Also I don't understand why its controlled from reception. Odd. Massage service was available. It was ok nothing special tho for the price good. Main reason for the lower score was the spar or lack of it. One of the main reasons to book the hotel was it's spa facilities however this was out of order for the whole duration of the stay. Extremely disappointing. Otherwise it was decent and fun. I would still recommend it purely on the staff.

The location is beautiful and close to old town, maybe 8 minutes walk. We had an issue of the AC working poorly and not cooling the room properly, we called the main desk several times and eventually they sent a technician to fix it but nothing was done. The staff are friendly. The gym was not crowded at all but there was minimal equipment. The breakfast was a bit limited in options but was quite nice. Overall it was a bit of a disappointing experience for a 5 star hotel but still ok.
